Mental Health First Aid Training - Adult
Wednesday, October 1, 2025 (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) (CDT)
Description
MHFA is an evidence-based public education program designed to impart invaluable skills for assisting someone in the midst of a mental health crisis. It goes beyond awareness, focusing on practical techniques that can bridge the gap until professional help arrives. Imagine the impact if responding to a mental health crisis becomes as commonplace as administering CPR during a cardiac emergency.
Why MHFA Training?
Did you know you're statistically more likely to encounter someone facing a mental health crisis than someone having a heart attack? MHFA training opens your eyes to the signs, teaches you how to communicate effectively, and guides you in connecting those in need with professional help. It’s about becoming a lifeline in a world where mental health matters.
Mental Health First Aid is not just a course; it's a movement to foster communities that understand, support, and uplift one another. Join us in this transformative journey, and let's make responding to mental health crises as instinctive as extending a helping hand. Together, we can create a world where everyone's mental health is a priority.
How Blended MHFA Works: Participants will complete 2 hours of online self-paced coursework followed by a scheduled 6-hour, in-person, instructor-led class.
The Mental Health First Aid Introduction is a self-paced e-learning course that consists of five segments.
- Overview of Mental Health First Aid
- Mental Health and Mental Disorders
- Role of the Mental Health First Aider and Self-care
- Common Mental Disorders in the U.S.
- Recognizing Signs and Symptoms
The In-Person Instructor Led portion of the course consists of:
- Mental health and mental disorders
- Role of the Mental Health First Aider and self-care
- Common mental disorders in the United States
- Recognizing signs and symptoms
- Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE)
- MHFA for early signs and symptoms
Prior to the virtual instructor led session, you will receive an email titled "MHFA: Let’s get started!" that will contain log in information and steps that need to be taken to complete your pre-work. This pre-work needs to be completed 24 hrs prior to the in-person portion of this course.
Registration deadline is Monday, September 15, 11:59 p.m. CST.
