SUMMARY:Forest Preserve and Conservation Section Meeting and Learning Lab: Buzzing with Purpose
DESCRIPTION:The Forest Preserve and Conservation (FPC) Section consists of professionals that either specialize or work in and around forest preserves and/or conservation. If you are interested in joining the section or simply wish to attend for educational and networking purposes\, you are encouraged to register.Event Timeline\n2:00pm: Forest Preserve & Conservation Section Meeting\n2:30pm: Presentation from Jennifer Rydzewski\; "Buzzing with Purpose: Working to Conserve Native Bees"Presentation Description: Did you know Illinois is home to nearly 500 species of native bees beyond the well-known European honey bee? These often overlooked and misunderstood pollinators are critical for the reproduction of native plants\, supporting biodiversity\, and even contributing to our food supply. However\, habitat loss\, pesticide overuse\, and climate change threaten these essential insects. As a land management agency\, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County works to restore natural areas\, provide ecological expertise\, and connect the public with nature in meaningful ways. Learn how the District is involved in education and action for native bee conservation\, including working with conservation detector dogs trained to locate bumblebee nests. Take away educational resources and practical ideas for creating long-term and sustainable positive changes for pollinator conservation. Learning Objectives:1. Learn at least one new fact about the life history of native bee species and their habitat needs.\n2. Explain at least one cause of native bee decline.\n3. Take at least one action that helps protect native bees after the presentation. How to Participate: This meeting will be on Zoom. Links will be sent to all registrants the day prior to the meeting. Not an IPRA member?
